My big boy

Okay I have to go back 2 weekends ago and brag in writing about Bryson.  While his hitting was great till he bragged on himself in the dugout to the team (yes he was 5-5, no errors until he jinxed himself) he threw out a runner at home from 8u-deep left center field.  Bounced one time to catcher and I hope he appreciates O Riley (the catcher that game) .

What is this cutoff guy business?

Proud of my baby 10u softball player

Tonight we all sat down for a late dinner. This daddy was dying to know how his baby girl did in her first kid pitch game. Actually a double header. I didn't get to go due to Bryson's practice out of town.

She's playing up her first time / season primarily for 2 reasons; one being her friends on the team and sticking with the 3rd grader friends that had to move up.  Addison could have stayed 'down'  and played 8u.

Any way, I have noticed how tough she is with plate presence and discipline for a girlie girl. She doesn't move her feet out when I throw her tight inside. She just stays in the box without flinching.  If you saw all the boys I've pitched to get happy feet, you'd quickly understand.

Did she crush the ball tonight? Maybe once. The word crush is relevant and irrelevant tonight.  She managed to get on base all 4 AB's tonight.  2 walks.  1 HBP.  1 hit.

This girl has come a LONG way and I can't wait for her to read this blog some day because she and I went through some hard times practicing a year ago. She learned practice pays... last year... in the 2nd half of the previous Spring.

We've worked alot on individual performance and I can't wait to go into the phase of how to be a team player because the OBP is 1.000 and is a great segway.  For someone that was diagnosed with extremely low depth perception last fall, I can't say enough.  Don't ever use this as an excuse!

I wish I could have been there,  Addison.  Love you!

Last basketball game of the first season

Wow, I skipped the entire year of 2015 without a blog post.  Definitely not intentional but that is a different conversation for another day.

Addison finished out her 1st season of basketball last Saturday.  She really enjoyed this team and the game. After watching brother for two seasons, she showed plenty of interest for me to sign her up and the first season was a great one relative to just starting.  She loved her practices and game time through the Crossings church league.

I was looking for a pic on my phone and ran across this one I wanted to share.

Kids say the darndest things

Bryson said something tonight that reminded me I better do a brain dump before too much time elapsed and I lose some of the detail.

Some time in October or November, the kids had some homework regarding 'opposites'.  We asked the kids for a word that came to mind in regards to the opposite of 'now'.  Addison responded, "not now!" with a lot of mischievous giggling.  Then someone came to my mind quickly, my mother.  :-)

Meanwhile Bryson has said a couple of things to where I had to stick my tongue in my cheek to keep from laughing.  We had a relatively early hard cold front hit in the first half of November.  I told Bryson it was going to be a low of 15 degrees and he asked "Does that mean it is the first day of Christmas?"

Yesterday, an orangeblood.com member notified us he'd uploaded his edited version of the 1969 UT@Arkansas game of the century.  He removed most of the first half of no scoring. I started watching and Bryson walked in later with alot of questions.  It was the first time he'd been introduced to our old SWC friends, the Arkansas Razorbacks and I think he's still trying to figure out how far back 1969 is. Tonight over dinner, Bryson was a little confused about why Texas didn't play yesterday.  I gave it my best shot at explaining the fact that they have a 'bowl' game and you have to win 6 games and get invited.  No more questions.  After he finished his shower, he came into my study as I'm sitting here and asked if I could lay with him tonight.  I asked him if he wanted to finish watching Texas play Arkansas.  Without hesitation he hopped into my lap and we started with 4th down and 2 with 2+ minutes left down 14-8.  At the very end, President Nixon is in the dressing room and presents a plaque for being number 1.  Bryson said, "I bet he invited them to the bowling party, didn't he?"

My favorite baseball player

It has been too long since I've blogged about my Sheppard Kiddos but tonight I wanted to write about my favorite baseball player, Bryson Sheppard. The 2014 season has ended ... just a few days after the MLB season.   Daddy and Bryson got to watch a few innings together before bed time ... and after bed time.  I wish Bryson was 7 (or close-to) when the Rangers were in the WS 2 years in a row.  Today's (current) time on TV reminds me of the time I spent with my dad aka Granpa in the dining room listening to WBAP 820 or in the kitchen dinette (Texan's Lamp Factory formica table) counting and rolling coins from concession stand revenues of the Bangs Little League Baseball Association.

Enough reminiscing.  After our final tournament of the season ended today unsuccessfully for the most part, I was cleaning out Bryson's bat-pack (similar to a school back pack) and pulled out his glove he used this past spring and fall.  He would not let go of it this fall after I bought him a new and better glove in August.  I could tell all fall season he wanted to please me and use the new glove but deep down inside he wanted to hang on to his ol' glove that is associated to so many great memories.  You even have to let a 6-7 yr old stick with the glove he prefers.  It is not a bat.  It is his personal glove that is part of his baseball playing body ... an extension to a limb.   However, the glove is is so malformed due to it being broke in the minute we walk out of the store in February 2014, we have to switch.  It is the glove that he loved and did so well with.  Bryson and I had a great year.  We won our 6 yr old league division, and this fall, our first season in machine pitch, we went 7-2-1.  I could have made it 8-2 but I had to teach all of them a lesson re arrogance.

The spring of 2014 was a great experience with a high level of expectations, yet the Fall of 2014 Edmond league started with zero expectations and ended on a very high note.  My point is 2014 is done ... the best year ever.  I didn't like the way it ended ... this Sunday morning ...  but as I swapped out the gloves in his bat-pack tonight in the dark after the time change (out with the old, in with the new) this coach and dad suddenly lost it.  That ol' glove that produced double plays and one  unassisted triple play will hang out in my study for a long time.  I Love You Bryson. You will always be my favorite baseball player.

Daddy's girl

Something she used to do 1 - 1.5 yrs ago.  She grabbed my hat tonight as I laid beside her and recollected those days.

Ol' Chuy dog

Tonight the 27th, 4 days after Chuy passed Mr. B still thinks about "ol' Chuy-dog". So does his Daddy, aka author; for years to come.  He picked out his stuffed animals to sleep with tonight and of course Amicus and the new Chuy which he won at the Great Wolf Lodge arcade via 1,000 tickets were in the top 4. Bryson started eyeing his goal in the arcade the night before. His name was "puppy" per Bryson.  Elated again and again we went up to the room with this new "puppy". However,  within 24 hours, Bryson, after the bad news and before bedtime, had decided "puppy" will have a name.

It made me realize again what I always thought of Chuy.  A puppy.  He was always sweet and onery.

Sorry to drift away from the intent of this blog but Bryson, as he laid down tonight, said "I'm worried about my dog".  He broke down again in tears.  His mind has definitely been occupied by the loss.

The real purpose of this blog is that Bryson cared so much about Chuy.  He also experienced others like his cousin Evin, neighbors David and Ian love Chuy.  For a 6 yr old today that doesn't care to talk about the daily routine of life, he definitely cared for our version of Marley.

There were jealous moments where Addison got a Chuy kiss and he didn't and the great moments which Bryson worked hard enough to get one that brought a giant  smile.  He loved so much to give Chuy a treat or to feed him.

There will never be another Chuy but I know I have a big dog lover I am raising and some day he and I will be ready for a new dog. I certainly will not be picking out the next dog without Bryson.  Great minds think alike!

Try out for new Nike comercial

Someone is stoked about his new Halloween costume. Last year was Mario's brother, Luigi. This year he is simply Toad.

Maybe Nike advertising gurus pick this pic up and we get a call. Can anyone refer an agent to us?

Lactose tolerant

Two years in a row ... opportunity of lifetime ... to milk the fake cow at the Texas State Fair.  I will never forget the meltdown Addison had last year on the way out bc she didn't get to milk the cow a second time.  Turned around near the gate. Daddy is soft.

Stealing bases

We attended the UT vs UT girls softball world series semi finals yesterday.  I pointed out to Bryson... Did you see that girl steal second base? He replied "but daddy, why is it still there?"

Now how does he know the literal meaning meaning of stealing at 5 years old!?

Brysons career plans

Cici's pizza worker endeavor. Because it would be fun and they don't put sauce on their pizza.

Addison's career plans at the age of 5

Hair salon owner. Wants to make people beautiful. A five year old talking about business ownership. Interesting.

Our first teeball tourney

Your daddy is proud of you two! You worked! Congratulations on finishing 2nd place out of 7 teams.
Three games in one day = two very happy and tired kiddos.  Big daddy and Nana rewarded us with good ol' Braums ice cream in a sugar cone. It doesn't get any better than that! (Tournament April 28 Midwest City, OK)

Chuy's in Norman

We will always have a place to remind us of our beloved dog along with Texas things.  His best pic is in the bar and is one of the first pics at this location.

I hate girls but not all girls

This is late but oh well.  Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and day before OU OSU football game, we were telling the kids in the car that they had a new babysitter coming Saturday.

Addison asked "What is her name"?
Kim - "Her name is Tristian"
Bryson - "Is Tristan a girl?  I hate girls."
Kim - "Oh Bryson.  You like Lauren, Alex and Janae and they are girls.
Addison - Yeah, Lauren, Alex and Janae are girls.
Bryson - "I like those kind."
Bryson - "I like Bumper and she's a girl."

I don't like girls ... just the girls I like.

My conclusion - He will be very selective about who he's dating. ;)
